American soccer fans rejoice: Clint Dempsey is back. And, of course, he scored a goal.
After nearly a four-month layoff due to a heart ailment, Dempsey returned to competition on Saturday night in Seattle Sounders FC's 2-1 loss to the Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Dempsey's second half goal may have been the highlight in the box score, but being back on the pitch was significant by itself.
"It's just fun to be back playing the game you love and get back to competing at the highest level," Dempsey said after the game. "It's good to join back up with the guys who have done so well last season winning MLS Cup, and just trying to play a part in seeing if we can repeat.
