Stanford won its second consecutive NCAA men's soccer title on Sunday afternoon thanks to yet another thrilling set of penalty kicks.
After a scoreless regulation and overtime, the Cardinal defeated Wake Forest, 5-4, in a shootout in front of the 6,315 fans at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Stanford, the No. 5 seed, is the first team to win two-straight titles since Indiana in 2004. Wake Forest (19-2-4) was the No. 2 seed.
The Cardiinal (14-3-6) were on the brink of elimination when Wake Forest's fifth kick taker stepped to the penalty spot.
Hayden Partain shot low to the right corner, but Stanford goalkeeper Andrew Epstein was there to save the day with a timely dive to knock it away.
