On Monday, the Houston Dynamo announced that Rob Lovejoy was among the players who did not have their contract options picked up. On Tuesday, Lovejoy took to Twitter to announce that he would be retiring from soccer at 25. The midfielder is originally from North Carolina and will be returning home after accepting a job back home.
He played his college soccer at the University of North Carolina. The midfielder was drafted in the second round (No 36 overall) of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by the Houston Dynamo. Lovejoy played 17 games in his first season with the team, but played just two games for the Dynamo in 2016.
