Dynamo’s Honduran players still alive for World Cup berth

Alberth Elis beamed as he made the rounds for interviews Wednesday night at BBVA Compass Stadium before the Dynamo’s game against Sporting Kansas City.

Who could blame him? Just 24 hours earlier the Dynamo forward had played a major role in Honduras’ 3-2 win over Mexico that kept the Central American nation alive for a berth in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Elis and fellow Dynamo forward Romell Quioto both scored on Tuesday. Boniek Garcia joined them on the roster but did not play against Mexico.

Honduras’ win combined with Panama’s win and the United States’ loss left Honduras in fourth place in the final CONCACAF standings.
