Dynamo forward Erick Torres placed third in the voting for the league's Comeback Player of the Year Award that was announced on Wednesday.
Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Clint Dempsey, a Texas native, won the award after recovering from a heart ailment that forced him to miss the end of the 2016 season.
Torres scored a club-record 14 goals this year after not scoring any in his first two seasons in Houston. Many of his goals came in the first half of the season as the Dynamo piled up home victories.
His best night came on April 1 when he scored a hat trick in a 4-1 win over the New York Red Bulls.
