CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two dominant pitching performances propelled Charlotte to a Friday sweep, winning 10-1 and 9-1 to begin the annual 49er Invite Tournament, pushing the Niners to 6-0 on the year, a program-best start in six seasons.
The 49ers used a first-inning, 5-0 lead as cushion to take a 10-1 mercy rule victory over 2015 American East Conference Champions Stony Brook, and continued with the hot bats, raking in 10 hits to defeat Presbyterian 9-1 in the nightcap.
Senior Lexi Betancourt registered another standout performance in the circle, scattering just two hits and one walk with five strikeouts across five innings to pick up her fourth win of the season, and sophomore Haley Wiseman followed up her 49er debut last weekend with an ever better outing- fanning a career-high 11 with no walks as she came three outs away from her first shutout of the year and faced just two batters over the minimum.
