When Doug Fister throws the first pitch of Game 3 of the American League Division Series this afternoon, he’ll have small shoes to fill. In other words, the Red Sox’ recent track record for starts (and outcomes) in Game 3 of the initial round of the playoffs has not been good. Not since 2007, when Curt Schilling pitched well in Game 3 against the Angels, has a Red Sox starter won a decision. Since this ownership group took over in 2002, Red Sox starters have won Game 3 just three times in eight tries.
